About the University

Fuji Women's University is a Japanese private women's university in Sapporo, Hokkaido, founded in 1961.

The first parish chief, Bishop Wenseslaus Kinold of the Sapporo Catholic diocese, believed that the “The Future of Hokkaido is in the education of girls“ and from this conviction requested that his native Germany send educators. Fuji Women's University was started by three Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George in response.

Fuji Women's University is true to this intention and accepts the mission to foster women of intellect and humanity to live in love and service to a wider society, through a holistic higher education founded on the compassion of the Christian world view.

Fuji Women's University consists of 2 faculties with 6 departments, a faculty of Humanities in Kita 16-Jo campus and a faculty of Human Life Studies in Hanakawa campus. Fuji Women's University is the only four-year women's university in Hokkaido with tradition and extensive proven experience.
